Cana
Ca'na. (place of reeds) Cana of Galilee, once
Cana in Galilee. A village or town, not far from Capernaum,
memorable as the scene of Christ's first miracle,
Joh_2:1And the third
day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was
there:
Joh
2:2 And both Jesus was called, and
his disciples, to the marriage. ;
Joh 2:3
And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have
no wine.
Joh_2:11This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and
manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
; as well as of a
subsequent one,
Joh_4:46So Jesus came again
into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a
certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. ;
Joh_4:53 So the father knew that it was at the same
hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself
believed, and his whole house.
Joh
4:54 This is again the second miracle
that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judea into Galilee.
,
and also as the native place of the apostle Nathanael.
Joh_21:2There were together
Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of
Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his
disciples. .
The traditional site is at Kefr-Kenna, a small
village about 4 1/2 miles northwest of Nazareth. The rival site is a
village situated farther north, about five miles north of Seffurieh
(Sepphoris), and nine miles north of
Nazareth. |
