Eve. (life). The
name given in Scripture to the first woman. The account of Eve's creation
is found at Gen_2:21And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall
upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the
flesh instead thereof; 2:22 And the rib,
which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her
unto the man.
Perhaps, that which we are chiefly intended to learn
from the narrative is the foundation upon which the union between man and
wife is built, namely, identity of nature and oneness of origin. Through
the subtlety of the serpent, Eve was beguiled into a violation of the one
commandment which had been imposed upon her and Adam. The Scripture
account of Eve closes with the birth of Seth.
Gen 3:20 And Adam called his wife's name Eve;
because she was the mother of all living.
2Co 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the
serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be
corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
1Ti 2:13
For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
1Ti 2:14
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the
transgression.
1Ti 2:15
Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in
faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
